For over 200 years, no ship of the Royal Navy left port without its complement of Navy Strength
Gin aboard. ‘Navy Strength’ meant that the spirit contained sufficient alcohol to still combust,
should it be spilt onto gunpowder. Anything weaker would simply soak the powder, rendering it
useless and the ship, defenceless. Gin had to pass the ‘proof’ test. And yet, it was an altogether
subtler spirit which allegedly inspired Lord Nelson, a complex and aromatic gin produced only
on the island of Menorca, at one time Lord Nelson’s base where, reputedly, he spent time with
Emma, Lady Hamilton.
Nelson’s Gin is named in honour of England’s greatest ever naval hero. Its flavour is also in
homage to the grandfather of its inventor. An outstanding man by the name of Nelson James

Old Dairy Brewery - Our story began early in 2010, when the brewery was set up in an old milking parlour deep in the Kent countryside. The Old Dairy Brewery was an immediate success, building a loyal fan base among ale enthusiasts who appreciated our finely crafted recipes, locally sourced ingredients and interesting variety of beer styles.

We soon outgrew the milking parlour and in mid 2014, built a new brewery inside two World War II Nissen buildings just off the High Street in Tenterden, Kent. Not for nothing is this pretty market town known as the ‘jewel in the weald’; our brewery enjoys beautiful views over the rolling hills of the surrounding countryside.

We passionately believe in brewing an exceptional range of very enjoyable and drinkable beers across a broad range of styles. We aim to use only the best and freshest ingredients, many of which are available from local farms on our doorstep. Our beers range from extremely quaffable best bitters, pale ales, American pale ale, stouts and IPA’s to an excellent array of seasonal brews. We also take great delight in brewing the more challenging Imperial Russian Stouts, Double Hopped IPA’s, Fresh Hop beers, Wild Hop beers, Vintage beers and historic recipe beers – there’s always plenty going on at the Old Dairy Brewery!

We produce authentic quality Herefordshire cider on our farm in Bishops Frome. We are committed to producing artisan products with the care and compassion of a small local cider maker. However we have the capacity to produce for national and international distribution. We have recently been awarded PGI – Protected Geographical Indicator which authenticates our ciders are genuine Herefordshire ciders made from Herefordshire cider apples.

After a career in major cider manufacturing and a break to bring up her young family  Susan Vaughan decided to join her brother Robert Hancocks back on the family farm in Bishops Frome Herefordshire.
The family has been growing fruit and hops on the farm for over 100 years Their farming roots go back deep into Mid Wales and the Welsh borders where many of their family still farm today. They are now drawing on that heritage and the abilities acquired from a history in the cider and brewing industry to produce quality ciders on the family farm.
They take great pride in their cider and monitor it closely from the growing of the apples to the packaging of the final products.
Every batch is tasted before packaging to ensure the product you receive is of the highest possible quality.
